This internship has immensely supported my creative skills development. Besides creating digital images for Twitter and Instagram, I have developed my first infographic from scratch and learned the beginnings of animating.
As Graduate Teaching Assistant I have developed two 3h-lectures for a Master-level course about technology and the environment. Equally, I second-graded undergraduate vivas. Both processes, albeit very different, have been instructive and rewarding.
During the internship with the PGR blog I wrote 15 blog posts about various aspects of PhD life, ranging from data collection to mental health.
Being research assistant for this fantastic project, a pop-up makerspace at the University of Glasgow, included a lot of firsts. I was responsible for the evaluation of the whole project, including data collection and writing the final report. I set up and maintained the website throughout the internship and I worked independently in a team that never met as a whole once.
My roles for Soul Soup were various and included many areas. My everyday tasks included office administration, staff supervision and volunteer recruitment & supervision. Furthermore, I was responsible for coordinating training for staff and volunteers. My most enjoyable responsibility was that of being involved in the marketing, maintenance of the website and online media creation. The highlight of my time with Soul Soup was our Superhero Campaign and winning £50,000 with it.
Being the first employee of this charity got me involved in many tasks. Main fields of work included administration, volunteer coordination, marketing, online media and website maintenance.
During my first full-time job I mainly planned and executed workshop days for school students and guided tours for tourists. Equally, I was involved in creating online media and marketing. One highlight was the organisation of a Summer Camp
This internship introduced to the beauty of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. My main responsibilities evolved around accompanying and leading workshop days for school students and supporting the public engagement team with their online presence.
Living in the jungle of Hong Kong for 4 months was challenging on various accounts, but the experience has been a exceptional one. Not only was I involved in teaching permaculture workshops to school kids and adults, I also got to expand my ability to adapt to a very different lifestyle.
During this brief internship, I mainly researched and wrote feature articles and columns for two local magazines. One of those articles which interviewed Crystal Meth addicts in my local region, won an award for best young journalist of my home state.
Before starting a 5 months intensive Chinese programme in Hangzhou, I spend a few weeks teaching 5 Chinese German students in German. This was a challenge to me as I had never taught before and was given no material for preparations. In the end, the students enjoyed the class and learned a lot, as did I.
This internship got me involved in the customer support of Berlin Phil Media who broadcast concerts of the Berlin Philharmonics live online for people to watch globally.
During this summer internship between my high school graduation and undergraduate degree, I worked for the events department of the Berlin-based taz magazine.
Working for the theatre while growing up was an absolute joy and exposed me early on to a world outside the confines of my fairly small home city. Through singing and acting I particiapted in a variety of operas, musicals and plays, mainly in the choir and/or supportive function. However, once in a while I had the chance to perform as a soloist as well, for example as one of the two main characters in a play for pupils about the creation of Wagner's Der Freischütz.
